Paul M, Website manager at Spa Valley Railway, responded to this reviewResponded May 21, Dear Leigh-Anne, Thank you for your review, and naturally we are very disappointed that you didn't get what you felt was full value for the day, and given what you've written, this is understandable. Whilst it's frustrating that your sat-nav decided to take you far away from Eridge station, the information we put on our website for directions and postcodes is correct.
Fun day out with Thomas at Christmas. - Review of Didcot Railway Centre, Didcot, UK - TripAdvisor
As you'd missed your train and had to join the next one, it was inevitable that the seat numbers showing on your tickets would be occupied by others, and perhaps this should have been explained better at the time, so apologies for that.
It's also regrettable that you had over an hour to kill at Eridge with a small child, but this is the shortest interval we can offer on Thomas weekends due to the constraints of our operation, and the times are clearly shown on all our publicity and leaflets You say you returned to Eridge on the same train you came in on.
This meant you missed all of the fun things that Thomas does he has to wait for the train to leave before he can chuff around the yard playing with trucks, have races with Diesel and get belly-ache from having fish in his water tanks, to name a fewthe Punch and Judy, the cinema, the face-painting, etc.
I would hope that put together all of these justify the ticket price, and certainly the free entry for your son. I hope very much that on arrival you were handed a programme outlining what was happening and when, which would have helped inform a decision to stay a bit longer at Tunbridge Wells, but if this was not the case, I apologise wholeheartedly.

It was raining quite badly and we had to leave my 6 month olds pushchair at the station as there wasn't any room the other side Luckily we could fit it under cover but if the train is particularly busy it would of had to of been left to get wet: When we got off Thomas the other side a lot of people were waiting to get back on and we had no room to get past, making carrying my baby and stopping my eldest falling down onto the track, difficult and very unsafe. Father Christmas was lovely and so were the elves waiting for us.
The presents were lovely and not a hint of a pound shop job in site!!!! The balloon models were nice and the trains in their Santa hats were nice touches.
Plenty for young ones to do in the old coaches, with Thomas sets, stories and colouring in.Day out with Thomas - UK Advert [Version 1] - (HD)
We found all the staff helpful and very friendly. My son was delighted with the fat controller and his present! Things to be aware of- As it had been raining when we went, the ground was very dirty under foot.
On arrival at the station, ticket holders receive a wristband and are given a flyer detailing the events and activities taking place throughout the day. There are also many staff, clearly identifiable by their blue waistcoats, who will give you information about the day if you feel the flyer is not clear. These brake van rides travel the length of platform 2 twice, totalling a round trip of 1 mile.
You are able to travel on this service as many times as you wish. This is so that no matter what time customers arrive Thomas is always at Llangollen Station. The fibreglass faces are supplied by the licence holder and fully approved.
Day out with Thomas - Spa Valley Railway
Llangollen Railway is a Heritage Railway and as such uses authentic engines and carriages, some of which are approximately 70 years old. Obviously these are not of the same specification as one would expect from the modern engines and carriages of today, however most people feel that this only adds to their enjoyment of the event.
In order for the engines to return from Carrog, they are required to utilise the run round loop which takes approximately 20 minutes. This operational requirement cannot be shortened and, by law, the engines are not allowed to travel backwards along the length of the track. This is a professional puppet show which we regularly receive great feedback for.
